Tabacón Grand Spa & Thermal Resort is committed to sustainable tourism. This development perspective enables our guests to truly enjoy a natural paradise without endangering the environment. For this reason we have a CST certificate, a system of environmental and social responsibility that evaluates the development and operation of tourism enterprises. The program is promoted by the Costa Rican Tourism Board (ICT) and recognized by the World Tourism Organization (WTO). Different actions have enabled us to protect the natural richness of Costa Rica. Even though the country covers an area of barely 51,000 km2, it is home to six percent of the planet’s biodiversity. Concerned about preserving this natural treasure, Tabacón has developed several sustainability plans and programs, such as:
- Promoting visits to national parks and regional and community sites of interest.
- Using biodegradable, organic products.
- 100 percent of the hot water used in the hotel comes from the hot springs.
- Protecting water sources from pollution.
- Implementing innovative systems that facilitate the conservation of energy and hydroelectric power.
- Engaging in reforestation programs for native species.
- Developing a comprehensive program of waste management.
- A program that identifies plant species with signs and provides botanical information about our gardens.
- 100 percent of the water we use is treated in our own plant, audited by the Health Ministry.
