Enjoy the most extraordinary view of one of the most active volcanoes in the Western Hemisphere, the Arenal Volcano.
Arenal is a stratovolcano 1,633 m high, an almost perfect very recently formed cone. During a hike along the base of this marvelous "Mountain of Fire" the trails will provide you the opportunity of being in the nearest possible observation point at the base of the volcano that in 1968 began erupting again with a strong pelean explosion which produced flows of pyroclasts or burning clouds.
After a 20 minute drive to the park, the hike begins on the active side of the volcano, which takes you through the tropical rain forest, recent lava flows and areas which were once devastated by 1968 eruption and they are now in the process of regeneration. The interesting phenomenon of forest succession can be seen on some of the trails, involving plenty of tree ferns.
At this hike along the trails of Arenal Volcano National Park it is possible to see a great variety of flora and fauna characteristic of the area while you walk through the lava slides of 1991.
While in the park it is possible to listen to the constant activity of the volcano with its lava flows and sporadic eruptions, and on clear days you will have the magnificent view of the impressive Arenal Volcano, the Arenal Lake and the Chato Hill.
The nature Guide will provide important and interesting information about the main characteristics of the volcano and many more important details of everything you will encounter alongside the trail walk.
After sundown, the view becomes even more awesome when on clear nights you can see the lava flow of Central America's most-active volcano and if you're lucky, you may be able to hear the eruption or the thuds as large lava rocks come tumbling down the side of cone shaped Arenal Volcano stain the volcano's skirts of red providing a great night-time spectacle.
